Le Manuscrit Bauyn ca 1690
This beautiful manuscript, copied by a single scribe, may be considered the most important source of French seventeenth century harpsichord music. A significant number of the works it contains are not preserved in source anywhere else. It contains music by familiar as well as lesser-known composers.
In my programme I have specially selected works from this monumental source with the intention of providing the listener with a broad overview of the stunning music written for the harpsichord in France during this period.
Composers:
Jacques Champion de Chambonnières (1601/2-1672)
Louis Couperin (c. 1626-1661)
Johann Jacob Froberger (1616-1667)
René Mézangeau (fl. 1567 – 1638)
Member of the Monnard Family
Nicolas Antoine Lebègue (1631 – 1702)
Henry Du Mont (1610 – 1684)
Jean Henri D’ Anglebert (1629 – 1691)
Member of the Gautier Family
